Samsung Support for AIR

So the recent AdobeMAX conference gave us all a chance to see the role that Adobe will be taking in the mobile space.  But what I found very interesting is how the AIR platform is really taking off.  Hot news was all about the BlackBerry Playbook offering an SDK based on AIR, and other mobile offerings.  I, however, am really excited about AIR on TV.  Adobe has partnered with Samsung to launch AIR on TV.  Because of this I decided to look into purchasing a Samsung TV for our UX group at Railinc.

To start off my search I had to find out what models would support the Samsung App store.  I contacted a support person at Samsung and they provided me with the following model numbers that support the apps, and hence should support AIR apps.

I am sharing this information with you as is.  Please verify before making a purchase.

In LED the models are:

  • UN55C6800UF
  • UN65C6500VF
  • UN60C6400RF
  • UN55C9000ZF
  • UN65C8000XF
  • UN55C7100WF
  • UN55C7000WF
  • UN55C6900VF

In LCD the models are:

  • LN46C750R2F

In Plasma the models are:

  • PN58C6400TF.

This information should help me to narrow down the field, hopefully it will help you as well.

Grails and Flex Presentation for NCDevCon 2010

We just wrapped up the first day at NCDevCon. What a great day and an equally awesome conference. If you missed it you can find all the sessions online, including one that I am partial to, Rapid Development With Grails and Flex ;-)

I enjoyed the opportunity to present this topic, it was a lot of fun to prepare for and the audience was awesome.  I do want to give special thanks to Jason Rudolph for his guidance and his book Getting Started With Grails – available in free PDF format, but help an author out and purchase the book as well.  We want authors to keep writing and inspiring us.  They can’t keep doing it for free.

I also want to throw a big shout out to all those in the Groovy/Grails Community for providing a fun and useful language and framework.

NCDevCon May 22nd – 23rd

In case you haven’t heard NCDevCon is on for this spring in Raleigh, NC. This is a FREE conference that covers Flex, Air, Coldfusion, and other web technologies. For more information visit: www.ncdevcon.com.

I was lucky enough to be included on the speaking agenda, and it is a real honor. They always have great speakers and awesome sessions. This year my topic will be “Rapid Development and Prototyping with Grails and Flex.” I am very excited about this topic as it brings together two technologies that I really enjoy.

I always found Java to be very heavy on the configuration side and it made creating prototypes and quick applications very tedious. I have nothing against Java, but rather all the configuration. Awhile back I discovered the Groovy language and the Grails framework. I can actually say that Groovy is an enjoyable language to work with. I have only begun to discover the power of the language and I only get to work with it on my own, as my employer is a strict Java shop. But now I am working with the Grails framework and Flex and I am finding a renewed joy in coding once again. I hope you will join me on this journey of learning at NCDevCon.
