NCDevCon 2010 Recap

A couple of days have passed since NCDevCon (May 22nd – 23rd) and everything is starting to sink in.  Before I get into a recap of my experience, I just want to give a little background on the event.  NCDevCon is a free conference in Raleigh, NC.  The focus of the conference was Flex/Flash, Air, Javascript, Design, Coldfusion, and overall web development.  The promoters, Dan Wilson and Jim Priest with backup by the TACFUG, do an outstanding job in putting together a quality conference.  And they do it so that attendees do not have to pay a dime to attend the conference. Phenomenal, effort. (more…)

NCDevCon May 22nd – 23rd

In case you haven’t heard NCDevCon is on for this spring in Raleigh, NC. This is a FREE conference that covers Flex, Air, Coldfusion, and other web technologies. For more information visit: www.ncdevcon.com.

I was lucky enough to be included on the speaking agenda, and it is a real honor. They always have great speakers and awesome sessions. This year my topic will be “Rapid Development and Prototyping with Grails and Flex.” I am very excited about this topic as it brings together two technologies that I really enjoy.

I always found Java to be very heavy on the configuration side and it made creating prototypes and quick applications very tedious. I have nothing against Java, but rather all the configuration. Awhile back I discovered the Groovy language and the Grails framework. I can actually say that Groovy is an enjoyable language to work with. I have only begun to discover the power of the language and I only get to work with it on my own, as my employer is a strict Java shop. But now I am working with the Grails framework and Flex and I am finding a renewed joy in coding once again. I hope you will join me on this journey of learning at NCDevCon.

See you all in May!
