My name is Adrian and I am a tech book addict. I often find myself purchasing tech books and reading some of each one, and on rare occasions an entire book from cover to cover. My recent focus, like many others I know, has been on mobile development. So with this new focus I purchased a couple of e-books that cover the Android platform. One of these books happened to be Android in Practice, published by Manning Publications, and written by Charlie Collins, Michael Galpin, and Matthias Kaeppler. The book was actually a MEAP – Manning Early Access Program. MEAPs are interesting in that you get a chance to see how authors put together their book and how they try and tie it all together. It also allows you to get books that cover hot topics sooner than their publish date. Disclaimer – I purchased a copy of this MEAP, this is not a book review written because a publishing house gave me a free copy. With all of that out of the way let’s get on with the review.

Samsung Support for AIR
So the recent AdobeMAX conference gave us all a chance to see the role that Adobe will be taking in the mobile space. But what I found very interesting is how the AIR platform is really taking off. Hot news was all about the BlackBerry Playbook offering an SDK based on AIR, and other mobile offerings. I, however, am really excited about AIR on TV. Adobe has partnered with Samsung to launch AIR on TV. Because of this I decided to look into purchasing a Samsung TV for our UX group at Railinc.
To start off my search I had to find out what models would support the Samsung App store. I contacted a support person at Samsung and they provided me with the following model numbers that support the apps, and hence should support AIR apps.

Creating Visual Experiences with Flex 3.0 : Book Review
On Dec. 1st I received my copy of ‘Creating Visual Experiences with Flex 3.0‘, by Juan Sanchez and Andy McIntosh (2009 Pearson Education Inc). I am a bit of a book fanatic, and find that books are my best resource, but lately there has been a glut of Flex and Air books to hit the market so I was a little skeptical about an AFFB (another freaking flex book). Then I read this book, actually the entire book in 3 1/2 days. All I have to say is… “freaking brilliant.” This is not AFFB. Continue reading
